“Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit; and there are varieties of services, but the same Lord; and there are varieties of activities, but it is the same God who activate all of them in everyone.”

1 Corinthians 12:4-6

Wakefield UMC strives to be a “Worship+2” congregation that promotes a central focus on the worship of Jesus Christ supported by an intentional commitment to grow in one’s faith and the response to that growth by serving Christ. As we continue our journey to grow with God, grow with one another and invite others to come grow with us, Wakefield UMC seeks to provide a manageable, realistic system of discipleship that is well balanced and non-consuming.

Our stewardship of the church is more than a focus on supporting the church with our financial gifts; stewardship is also the way that we pray, participate in the life of the church, serve the church and share our faith in our daily life.  As part of our spirit of stewardship, “Worship + 2” is a discipleship plan that ensures people are looking both inward (at themselves) and outward (at the world) while gathering together for Christian worship.

First, Worship is primary. We are called to create a hospitable, relevant church community where people can grow with God, connect with others in the church and invite others to feel welcome in and become a part of this new community of faith.  We come together as a community to connect and grow together in the worship of Christ.  Members of our church community should strive to come together as often as possible to worship as a community.

Then, “+ 1” = Doing something to nurture your own faith.  Acting inward is crucial for both growing personal faith and discipleship and for building community at Wakefield UMC.

Finally, “+ 1” = Doing something to serve others, whether it be inside our outside of the church.  Acting outwardly is crucial for answering the call to reach out in love and service to the world.  Whether it is serving on a ministry team at the church or a mission project to the community, doing something for others in the name of Christ is something that the members of our church community should seek out as part of their commitment to grow in faith.

As you explore Wakefield United Methodist Church, please use any of the following methods to connect to our church and begin living into our mission to Grow with God, Grow with One Another and invite Others to come Grow with us.
