Welcome to Sarah’s Garden, the Family & Children Ministry at Wakefield UMC. This ministry is the namesake of Sarah, the wife of Abraham who, because of her faith was blessed by God to bear a son at 90 years old (Genesis 17:16).
Wakefield UMC is committed to making disciples of Jesus Christ, at whatever age. Children play an important part in the church, because they remind us all that we are all children of God. Jesus said, Let the little children come unto me, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. As we all continue to grow in our faith, we pray that Wakefield UMC will be a place where families and children of all ages can build a “path” for their households to travel so that they can experience constant and relevant Christian growth.
Additionally, we pray all our member and visiting parents will be fed not only through their time in Sunday morning worship, but through the small group ministry as well as programs and services sponsored by the Family and Children Ministry.
During the 10 am Sunday morning worship service, we offer programs for children ages birth to 5th grade. Our goal is to provide a safe, loving, and FUN atmosphere to learn about and grow in their relationship with God.
Sarah’s Garden offers the following programs:
Flower Bed
The Flower Bed provides a safe, nurturing environment for children from birth to 2 years old. The Flower Bed has lots of age appropriate toys, hugs, and love for our little seedlings. Our Flower Bed uses a computer program check-in solution which randomly assign a security code to each child (which is required to pick up the child) to ensure safety, speed up drop off, and track special needs or dietary restrictions. Each parent with a child in the Flower Bed is given a pager during drop off so they can be contacted during service if necessary. In addition to church volunteers, the Flower Bed has a paid staff member to provide consistent care to our wee ones from week to week. Please bring a labeled diaper bag with a change of clothes, diapers, a sippy cup or bottle, and any special comfort items for your child.
Super Seedlings
The Super Seedlings class provides a structured play time to help little ones begin learning about God and Jesus. We will use learning centers, simple stories, songs, and art projects to introduce children to church and bible concepts in a fun way. Children will move to this class once they turn two and will stay in this class until the promotion Sunday (in August) that they are old enough to move to Holy Sprouts. Each parent with a child in this class will be given a pager during drop off so they can be contacted during service if necessary. Please bring a labeled diaper bag with a change of clothes, diapers, a sippy cup or bottle, and any special comfort items for your child.
Holy Sprouts
Our children ages 3 through 1st grade have grown into Holy Spouts and participate in the Godly Play program. This program follows the structure of a Christian worship service and provides our children the opportunity to learn God’s word by listening to his stories. The children explore these stories through “wondering”, playing, and art.
Awesome Blossoms
Our Awesome Blossoms (children ages 2nd through 5th grade) explore bible stories using a different medium each week. The stories are taught in a 4 week rotation and each week the children learn through Art, Music, Storytelling, or Bible Games. This fall we will study Creation and Noah.
